[Shadeshi_Bondhu] Equip the participants of "Know Bangladesh" programme with GPS

Equip the participants of "Know Bangladesh" programme with GPS
BdOSN should get involved with BSK and GP in make this happen

The headline and sub-headline says it all. If this is done, it has the potential to energize a number of sector of Bangladesh.

Government has huge databases of different categories that could be leveraged for open source developements. For example, they could easily make arrangement so different online companies could collect to upload data for public use. Kintu onara tu seta korben na. Secretary and Chief Engineer gulu bose bose dim e ta den and look for ways how to thawrt the technological progress of the country so that they can keep sleeping. Well, we don't have to wait for them. Who cares - if we can do it ourselves, isn't it? (just like bandwidth niye bogol daba kore bose royese, bosor dhore. hopefully things will change soon).

With GPS equipped, these young participants can be involved in an ongoing update of the roads, natuaral attractions, archeological sites and above all, almost all social and government installations.

Here is a list of potential benefits:

1. The youth who participates in this programme and the people whom they meet during their trip will be learning the technology.
2. Tourism will be benefited.
3. General people who can not afford to travel (due to lack of money or time) can take advantage of virtual visits.
4. If a proper methodology is followed to upload the data in different open source databases, this could open up a huge number possibilities in coming days.
5. Brand Bangladesh initiative will get a huge leap through this.
6. 7. 8. ...... We could go on listing the possibilities, however, you get the message.

Can we do it? What will be issues?

Money could be a potential problem.

If GrameenPhone does not have enough money for additional financial support, would you let the people know so there can be an online drive to raise the funding. Off coruse, BdOSN or some similar organization has to come forward first. Any takers?

Biswa Shahitto Kendro, djuice launch 'Know Bangladesh' programme

Biswa Shahitto Kendro (BSK) and mobile phone operator Grameenphone's youth brand djuice are organising a programme styled 'Know Bangladesh'.

The programme is a bicycle tour across Bangladesh by the youth to learn more about the lifestyle and the hardships of the rural and semi-urban people of the country, says a press release.

Participants will comprise a three- to ten-member group, each with a group leader, who will also serve as the correspondent to BSK, and a captain, to lead from the front.

All trips will start from Dhaka by bicycles on specified routes. Different groups may travel to different places at the same time and the duration of each trip may vary from 5 to 15 days. However, the trip cannot exceed 300 miles.

The participant groups will be given some tasks to get better acquainted with Bangladesh. They will be asked to analyse the geographic terrain, flora and fauna of the places visited. They will have to gather information on the area and visit schools, colleges and universities, and encourage the students to read books and participate in future programmes of the BSK.

The participants will also submit write-ups on their tour experience and the best write-up and photograph will be published in BSK's annual magazine and some newspapers.
