[Shadeshi_Bondhu] List of Shameless Dhaka University Teachers who loan Tk 1.80cr for Education Abroad

As many as 102 DU teachers who went abroad on study leave owe Tk 1.80 crore to the university as they have never returned or repaid the loan taken before leaving the country for higher studies.

According to the university rules, an eligible teacher can go abroad for higher education with up to four years' study leave. During the study leave, he or she is entitled to receive salary and other allowances from the university.

Sources said the defaulters each had signed a bond before taking the loan that they would pay the money back if they decided to stay abroad.

Sources said 71 of these teachers are from the science faculties, five from the Arts faculty, 14 from Social Science faculty, two from the Law faculty, nine from Business Studies faculty and four from the Institute of Business Studies.

Among the defaulters, three are professors, 66 lecturers and the rest are assistant professors, university sources said.

Of the teachers of sciences faculties, 10 are from biochemistry and molecular biology department, nine each from applied physics and electronics, and chemistry departments, one from mathematics, five from physics, three from applied chemistry, four from applied chemistry and chemical technology, one from computer science and engineering, five from geography and environment, three from geology, five from statistics, two from applied statistics, six from microbiology, five from psychology and one from soil, water and environment department.

Defaulters List:

Management department teacher Mishkat Uddin who had gone to the US for higher studies and made no contact for a few years but recently joined North South University , the VC said the authorities have already sent a letter to his address.Management department teacher Mishkat Uddin was fired. He owes over Tk 1 lakh.
Nahida Banu, lecturer in biochemistry and molecular biology, was due to return to her job on April 1, 1994. The authorities have terminated her job as she did not respond to letters sent to her asking her to return. She owes Tk 3.5 lakh to the university.
Chemistry teacher Abul Khair Khan took Tk 1.6 lakh and was due to return to the university on July 1, 2001.

Emergency rule boosts Bangladesh garment exports: industry

DHAKA (AFP) — Bangladesh's garment exports are booming thanks to a new, stable business climate under the country's state of emergency, officials said Wednesday.

The nation's exports of knitted and woven items rose by nearly 17 percent to a record 10.7 billion dollars in the financial year to June 2008.

"We had an image as a strike-prone country. Buyers from all over the world used to worry a lot about whether our manufacturers could meet shipment deadlines," Export Promotion Bureau chief Shahab Ullah told AFP.

"But the state of emergency brought much-needed stability as there have been hardly any strikes."

The garment export growth rate in the last financial year was up only marginally from the previous year's 16 percent rise.

But industry officials said the headline figure masks a big achievement considering exports fell 5.37 percent in the first quarter of the last financial year, amid concern about the country's political outlook.

It took a while for buyers to realise that Bangladesh could be a stable supplier of garments and after that "export orders jumped," Ullah said.

"To buyers, stability means a lot," said Anwar-ul Alam Chowdhury Parvez, head of the Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association, which covers 4,200 factories.

Chowdhury said global buyers -- mainly from the US and the European Union -- started looking towards Bangladesh from October.

Exports leapt by 51 percent year-on-year in January and by more than 20 percent in the other months until the end of the financial year.

A state of emergency was imposed in Bangladesh in January 2007, banning strikes after months of bitter political and industrial unrest that left dozens killed and closed factories and ports.

The military-backed government has promised elections in December 2008 after it completes political, electoral and economic reforms.

Garment industry officials said they hoped the industrial climate would remain stable after democracy is restored.

Constant general strikes paralysed the country amid a duel between Bangladesh's two main rival political parties, the Awami League and the Bangladesh National Party, before the imposition of emergency rule.

The garment trade accounts for 40 percent of all industrial jobs in Bangladesh, with women making up more than 80 percent of the workforce.

Some 40 percent of Bangladesh's 144 million people live below the poverty line. Poor households spend nearly 70 percent of their income on food.

Garments, which make up three-quarters of the impoverished country's export earnings, helped boost total exports by 16 percent to a record 14.11 billion dollars in the last financial year.

we again returns to the old politics .........so nothing changes in bangladesh .....(except the increase of food price )

After 4 city councils & 9 local councils election it is very clearly proved that the persons who are working in ACC & EC are totally inefficient. quality knowledge less & worthless workers.

The ACC could not be able for proving to the mind of common people that the persons who are arrested by the ACC are really corrupted.

The Election Commission could not be able to make the perfect rules of law & the policy of law for creating the local council as non political neutral administration & could not able to conduct non political local council election as non political in non party systems.

These so called higher degree educated persons working in ACC & EC are totally failed to perform their duty correctly & efficiently according to their long time speaking & gossiping statements. They have proved to the common people that they are experpert only in speaking & gossiping but not skilled in performing their duty & work efficiently & they are only worthless good speakers.

DHAKA (AFP) — Bangladesh's garment exports are booming thanks to a new, stable business climate under the country's state of emergency, officials said Wednesday.

The nation's exports of knitted and woven items rose by nearly 17 percent to a record 10.7 billion dollars in the financial year to June 2008.

"We had an image as a strike-prone country. Buyers from all over the world used to worry a lot about whether our manufacturers could meet shipment deadlines," Export Promotion Bureau chief Shahab Ullah told AFP.

"But the state of emergency brought much-needed stability as there have been hardly any strikes."

The garment export growth rate in the last financial year was up only marginally from the previous year's 16 percent rise.

But industry officials said the headline figure masks a big achievement considering exports fell 5.37 percent in the first quarter of the last financial year, amid concern about the country's political outlook.

It took a while for buyers to realise that Bangladesh could be a stable supplier of garments and after that "export orders jumped," Ullah said.

"To buyers, stability means a lot," said Anwar-ul Alam Chowdhury Parvez, head of the Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association, which covers 4,200 factories.

Chowdhury said global buyers -- mainly from the US and the European Union -- started looking towards Bangladesh from October.

Exports leapt by 51 percent year-on-year in January and by more than 20 percent in the other months until the end of the financial year.

A state of emergency was imposed in Bangladesh in January 2007, banning strikes after months of bitter political and industrial unrest that left dozens killed and closed factories and ports.

The military-backed government has promised elections in December 2008 after it completes political, electoral and economic reforms.

Garment industry officials said they hoped the industrial climate would remain stable after democracy is restored.

Constant general strikes paralysed the country amid a duel between Bangladesh's two main rival political parties, the Awami League and the Bangladesh National Party, before the imposition of emergency rule.

The garment trade accounts for 40 percent of all industrial jobs in Bangladesh, with women making up more than 80 percent of the workforce.

Some 40 percent of Bangladesh's 144 million people live below the poverty line. Poor households spend nearly 70 percent of their income on food.

Garments, which make up three-quarters of the impoverished country's export earnings, helped boost total exports by 16 percent to a record 14.11 billion dollars in the last financial year.
