Did McCain couple do unfair politics while highlighting their illegal(!) daughter?
It is nothing but unfit for a person with records as it is of Senator McCain
First, a clarification about why we are writing this article since we usually write on topics that relates to the future development of Bangladesh. Many of our readers might forward a logic that since Bridget McCain was born in Bangladesh, it is OK to talk about this issue from Bangladeshi context. But we have much stronger logic in support of our decision to write on this - we would not usually think that it's OK to talk about Bridget involving politics.
However, McCains have used her to get political mileage in the latest Republican Conventions. Since her self-proclaimed parents have brought her into muddy waters of politics, we thought its fair to highlight some issues.
First of all, if McCains claim that she is their daughter, then they are either lying about Bridget's country of birth (which they claim to be Bangladesh) or they have broken the law. There is off course a third posibility, which has not been discussed so far in the press. Please allow us to discuss both options in details.
1. McCains, who have no prior connection to Bangladeshi heritage cannot adopt a child from Bangladesh, that is against the adoption law of Bangladesh. It is not something that is unknown to the Americans, rather it should be very well known. Only a person who holds dual citizenship can adopt a child from Bangladesh - for details you can see the relevant link from the
US Embassy web-site in Dhaka. So, as far as laws of the land is concerned, McCain couple can not adopt a child from Bangladesh. Any foreigner who claims to have adopted a child from Bangladesh, that would be illegal. Its very plain and simple.
2. It possible that Bridget was actually adopted from India where Mother Teresa's missionary work is well-known. (BTW, do any of you know where is the Mother Teresa's orphanage in Dhaka? Having lived in Dhaka during about the same time when Bridget might have been born, it would be unusual not to know some institution like Mother Teresa's Orphanage in Dhaka! One just wonders whether there is actually such a thing there and where?)
As we mentioned, there is off course a third possibility. There might be a connection with the then dictator in Dhaka, General Ershad who might have broken the law to allow an exception for the Senator. Only a fair investigation would allow the truth to come out that may or may not exonerate the McCain couple from any wrong-doing as far as the actual procedure of adoption is concerned.
Whatever the reason or story behind it, use of such stories of adoption for poltical gains is repulsive. Actually, Senator McCain has gone mad to "BE" the president - at whatever price. Many of his actions during last 8 years (after he was defeated in 2000 primary) are the best proof of that. US policies around the world could be tied to the death of millions of childs around the world and he never feels an urge to do anything about that. Use of Bridget for political gain is just the last stroke in the series.
On a more logical note, it would be nice if some Bangladeshi journalists could go into Mr. Moriarty's office (current US Embassadar in Dhaka) and find out the actual circumstances which may support or falsify our allegations in this article.
